Why Empowerment of Rural Women is So Important…

-EOS is committed to having a positive impact on the lives of Nicaraguans, not just a short-term fix…. we are focused on a long-term solution of lifting themselves out poverty.

-EOS has found that women have increased their annual income on average by 81% with starting mini bakeries from EOS fuel-efficient ovens.

-We believe in empowering rural families by investing in them as customers, not beneficiaries of charity -With the proper technology, installation, training, and supporting business skills, we empower farmers and rural families to overcome the challenges of poverty.

-EOS sells their fuel-efficient barrel oven for $130. The EOS technician installs the oven in collaboration with the family, teaching them basics of operation and troubleshooting, this way they are able to bake with confidence. This family can now bake using 80% less firewood and a third of the time. They can sell a portion of their baked goods, and pay for the cost of the oven is as few as seven weeks. Week eight, the family is now generating additional income…. poverty cycle broken. EOS understand that our ovens are very basic and relatively small in scale. That is why we commonly get calls to come back and build a second oven, doubling the oven’s capacity-we love it when it gets to this level.

-If the farmer pays for the oven, where does my donation go? An oven may cost $130, but that is only about a third the cost. EOS is dedicated to the successful implementation of the technology including installation, training, evaluation, and product promotion. Many rural families have never seen this oven, so promotion is big part of our value proposition. We have a squad of motorcycles that traverse the mountain sides of Nicaragua to spread the news of the positive impacts of our technologies. If you have ever been in a developing country, you would know that roads tend to be in disrepair making it difficult and time consuming to reach these rural communities. As a donor, your money helps us reach these remote locations and provides the support to ensure a positive impact.

I am the baker of the San José Bakery and we bake cosas de horno or baked goods twice a week. The EOS oven uses a lot less firewood and is very easy to operate. Our group started our bakery after we installed this oven and now we are all making some money.”

Not long ago Chepita Caballero was jobless and in search of opportunity. As fate would have it, EOS International was looking for someone just like her. Now she runs her own bakery and employees nearly a dozen Nicaraguans.
